The Raspberry Pi Foundation, the non profit organization behind the Raspberry Pi Linux computer has announced on their blog that the Cambridge reference file system for the Raspberry Pi is now available for download. The disc image is actually a Debian Squeeze installation with development tools, sample code for accessing the multimedia functionality of the Raspberry Pi, and LXDE and Midori browsers. They believe this will not be the distribution that the majority of users will use; rather it will be the reference platform for coders.
They managed to receive a donated server from Webfusion to host their HTTP downloads for the disc image; however, they are limiting the number of downloads to keep server load low. Instead, they are relying on torrents for the majority of downloads. In addition, many users have volunteered server space to mirror the HTTP downloads, including Verry Technical
. Although i would encourage everyone who can to download and seed the torrent version, if you ISP is heavy handed on throttling torrents, feel free to use the direct downloads. All I ask is that you please, don’t abuse them.

For those curious, Raspberry Pi also included the following information about the download:
- SHA-1 Checksum: “4bf7a47151ab6f1835be53ec99d8d750861213d4″
- Default Login Credentials: “pi/suse”
I’m excited to see the Raspberry Pi released, and can’t wait to get my hands on one! What would you do with the Raspberry Pi? Let us know in the forums!

My cute corgi puppy :)
If there is enough interest, I’ll gladly host the Arch Linux and Fedora Remix distros as well. For now though, I’ll do my part to support the torrent downloads of them
